Softball Recap: Westmont Sets Scoring Season-High Against Leland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westmont). They put the hurt on the Leland Chargers with a sharp 16-6 victory on Thursday. The Warriors not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 6th.

Regan Steele looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marina Li was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Crowley, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.

Westmont hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win made it two in a row for Westmont and bumps their season record up to 8-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Leland, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Westmont will take on Carlmont at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. As for Leland, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Branham at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th.
