Recap: Griffith Panthers vs. Whiting Oilers

The Griffith Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Whiting. Griffith has struggled against Whiting recently, as their game on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Griffith saw an underclassman step up: Morgan Von ogden scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Von ogden has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Briana Esquivel, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Among those leading the charge was Torie Davis, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Quinones, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five steals.

Griffith's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Whiting, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11-1.

Griffith will challenge Hanover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hanover Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Griffith in Indiana (Hanover Central is ranked 134th, while Griffith is ranked 388th). As for Whiting, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hammond Bishop Noll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hammond Bishop Noll is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
