Basketball Recap: Addy Simmons' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Amherst over Overton

Amherst lost against Overton back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Amherst Broncos fell to the Overton Eagles 40-35. The Broncos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Amherst's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addy Simmons, who posted five points in addition to 13 boards and five steals. Simmons has become a key player for Amherst: the team is 8-3 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-6 otherwise. Libby Mitchell was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Overton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gracen Hughes, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daisy Ryan, who put up nine points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Amherst's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Overton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Amherst has already played their next contest, a 67-39 defeat against Elm Creek on the 13th. As for Overton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 36-20 loss against Wilcox-Hildreth on the 11th.
