Baseball Game Preview: Santa Fe Chiefs vs. Marshall Eagles

The Santa Fe Chiefs will challenge the Marshall Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Santa Fe comes in on five and Marshall on three.

Santa Fe is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Burroughs 11-5.

James Oregon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Santa Fe's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 12-15 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Leiva, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Santa Fe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Marshall won against Leuzinger on Friday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out Cerritos 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since March 29th.

Michael Gerst looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Pandullo, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevor Lain, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Santa Fe's win bumped their record up to 15-16. As for Marshall, their victory bumped their record up to 18-6-1.
