Recap: Wendover Wildcats vs. Altamont Longhorns
The Wendover Wildcats had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Thursday. They blew past Altamont 80-53 at home. Wendover's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Wendover's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Raul Valle, who scored 26 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Valle has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Efren Delmuro, who scored 17 points along with five assists and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Altamont lost, one person who can't be blamed is Grayson Panas. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 43.4% of Altamont's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Arnold, who scored 14 points.
Wendover's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points per game. As for Altamont, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wendover will challenge Manila at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Manila focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. Altamont will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Green River at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Averaging 59.3 so far this season, Green River's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Altamont better be ready for a challenge.
