After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Iowa Colony, the Sweeny Bulldogs were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 39-32 victory over Van Vleck. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but Sweeny was the better team in the second half.

Sweeny got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sloan Novak out in front who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Warrick Hernandez, who scored ten points along with two steals.

Van Vleck lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Peyton Huerta, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. Huerta hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Hector Mares, who scored six points.

Van Vleck struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sweeny pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.

The victory got Sweeny back to even at 17-17. As for Van Vleck, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-11.

Sweeny will head out on the road to challenge Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Needville is coming into the contest with ten straight victories at home, so Sweeny is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Van Vleck, they will square off against Tarkington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Van Vleck focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
