Game recap: Central High School Football Team defeats Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Central (Fresno, Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 28-14 win over Bakersfield (Calif.).

The Grizzlies put up 14 points in the opening frame. Central scored on a defensive touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

After taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter, CHS led 21-0 at the half.

Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 21 entering the fourth.

Led by Hatari Byrd, the Fresno school came into the game allowing 14.9 points per game. The Drillers' 14 points were below their season average of 19.5 per game.



The loss comes after Bakersfield defeated Clovis East 63-7 last week. The loss snapped Bakersfield's 3-game winning streak. With the win the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to four games.

Central (10-2) goes up against Clovis West when it takes the field next week. The Golden Eagles go into the week with a record of 2-9.
