Baseball Game Preview: Vassar Vulcans vs. Akron-Fairgrove Vikings

Vassar is on a six-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Akron-Fairgrove a nine-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Vassar Vulcans will host the Akron-Fairgrove Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last seven times Vassar and Marlette have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Vulcans lost 24-2 to the Red Raiders.

Seth Hecht made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Trevor Gleeson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Akron-Fairgrove's offense. They came up short against Mayville on Monday, falling 10-0.

Akron-Fairgrove saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kent Bernia, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Akron-Fairgrove's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Vassar, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Vassar has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Akron-Fairgrove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
