Baseball Game Preview: South Kingstown Rebels vs. Pilgrim Patriots

The South Kingstown Rebels will head out on the road to take on the Pilgrim Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

South Kingstown fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Portsmouth on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jonah Monnes was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Jack Noonan was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Pilgrim faced Westerly in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Patriots fell 7-2 to the Bulldogs.

Pilgrim has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for South Kingstown, their record now sits at 9-3.

Everything went South Kingstown's way against Pilgrim in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as South Kingstown made off with a 6-0 victory. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
