Softball Recap: Mercy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with North Laurel

Mercy faced North Laurel in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Mercy fell 6-1 to North Laurel. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Mercy couldn't push the score so high this time.

Olivia Colebank was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mercy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Reinhart, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Another was Madison Degrella, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Mercy's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for North Laurel, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 8-0.

Coming up, Mercy will take on Holland at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for North Laurel, they will welcome Eastern at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.
