Football Game Preview: East Alton-Wood River Oilers vs. Roxana Shells + How To Watch

The East Alton-Wood River Oilers are taking a road trip to take on the Roxana Shells at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Alton-Wood River comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

East Alton-Wood River's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Freeburg on Friday. They were outmatched by the Midgets and fell 63-0. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 467th, while the Midgets are ranked 143rd).

Meanwhile, Roxana came up short against Breese Central on Friday and fell 31-20.

East Alton-Wood River will have to contain Mekhi Shorter as he made an impact in Roxana's last game. He rushed for 183 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. Shorter really tore up the turf during one magnificent 95-yard run.

Even if they lost, Roxana's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Mason Crump, Logan Prater, and Lyndon Thies, who each picked up one sack apiece.

East Alton-Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Roxana, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Things could have been worse for East Alton-Wood River, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 27-8 loss to Roxana in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Oilers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
