Football Recap: Kaipo Gutierrez and Van Piercy Secure Win for Rancho Buena Vista

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Otay Ranch, Rancho Buena Vista was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 30-13 victory over the Sweetwater Red Devils.

Rancho Buena Vista was led to victory by Van Piercy and Kaipo Gutierrez. Piercy rushed for 86 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, while Gutierrez gained 102 total yards and two touchdowns. Piercy got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 68 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Rancho Buena Vista was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 241 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Rancho Buena Vista's defense stepped up as well, laying out Jonathan Figueroa. three times. Gage Piercy was especially locked on to Sweetwater's QB and sacked him twice.

Although Sweetwater took the loss, they still got scores from Christian Corpus and Juan Alvarez.

The win got Rancho Buena Vista back to even at 1-1. As for Sweetwater, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Coming up, Rancho Buena Vista is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge San Pasqual at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sweetwater, they will be playing at home against Escondido at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
