Softball Recap: Walther Christian Academy Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Walther Christian Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Westmont Sentinels 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Broncos have posted since May 1, 2024.

Isabella Ziupsnys spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Selah Argueta was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kariyah Perez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Walther Christian Academy's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-7. As for Westmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Coming up, Walther Christian Academy will face off against Cristo Rey Jesuit at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cristeros will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Broncos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Westmont, they will venture away from home to take on Northtown at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Sentinels are facing the Pumas at the right time seeing as the Pumas are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
