Basketball Recap: Broomfield Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Broomfield and Overland squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Broomfield had to settle for second. They came up short against the Overland Trailblazers, falling 74-53. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Broomfield still got an impressive performance from Grant Schmidt, who shot 53% from the field to rack up 20 points and five rebounds. Schmidt is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Zufall, who posted eight points.

Overland had a senior duo take command as Siraaj Ali went 7-for-12 on his way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five boards and Tj Manuel shot 78% from the field en route to 18 points and eight assists. Those 78% field goal percentage set a new season-high mark for Manuel. Another player making a difference was Isreal Littleton, who went 6-for-7 to rack up 12 points and six rebounds.

Broomfield's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Overland, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season.

Broomfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Overland, they have already played their next game, an 88-77 loss against Mountain Vista on the 4th.
