Basketball Recap: Jarvis Pope's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bell Creek Academy over Jesuit

It was a proper cat-fight when Bell Creek Academy took on Jesuit on Tuesday. The Panthers fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 80-78. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (70), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Bell Creek Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jarvis Pope, who shot 62% from the field to rack up 26 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Pope is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Ocean Thompson was another key player, going 7-for-9 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and five rebounds.

Jesuit found their leader in sophomore Mike McLendon, who shot 64% from the field on his way to 22 points along with six assists and six boards. With that strong performance, McLendon is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. Another player making a difference was Tyler Caouette, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 15 points and seven rebounds.

Bell Creek Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Jesuit, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Looking ahead, Bell Creek Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Varsity Opponent at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jesuit, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sports Leadership & Management at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Spartans have now posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
