The Tipton Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Delphi Community Oracles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Tipton took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Clinton Prairie, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Gophers 8-6.
The team relied heavily on Aaden Gibbs, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jarren Auler also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Delphi Community entered their tilt with South Newton on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Rebels a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Oracles have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Damian Briseno was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Delphi Community got a massive performance out of Levi Coghill, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Tayte Bernhardt was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Delphi Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Newton only posted an OBP of .273.
Tipton's record now sits at 4-10. As for Delphi Community, their record is now 13-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tipton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Delphi Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
