Basketball Preview: Coventry Oakers vs. Toll Gate Titans

Coventry is 4-0 against the Titans since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Coventry Oakers will look to defend their home court against the Toll Gate Titans at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Saturday, Coventry beat the Wizards 70-60.

Coventry can attribute much of their success to Tyler Broady, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and two blocks, and Logan Voelker, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 20 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Voelker has scored all season. Caleb Whited was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Toll Gate's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 81-57 walloping at the hands of South Kingstown. Toll Gate has not had much luck with the Rebels recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Toll Gate's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dylan Perreault, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Jack Colvin who scored 17 points. Perreault is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last seven games he's played.

Coventry is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Toll Gate, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Coventry have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Toll Gate struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Coventry strolled past the Titans when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 47-33. Will Coventry repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
