Football Recap: Staunton River Starts Season with Win Against Hidden Valley + How To Watch

Staunton River had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 37-14 margin over the Hidden Valley Titans on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Golden Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Titans are ranked 269th).

Staunton River's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asher Underwood, who rushed for 97 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. Patrick Chewning was another key signal caller, throwing for 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight passes.

Staunton River's run defense was locked in: Hidden Valley could only muster 0.8 yards per carry. The Golden Eagles didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.9.

Staunton River has already played their next game, a 40-7 defeat against Jefferson Forest on the 5th. As for Hidden Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 65-3 loss against William Byrd on the 5th.
