Baseball Recap: Lakeland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Churubusco

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakeland). They put the hurt on the Churubusco Eagles with a sharp 21-3 win on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Lakers, who have now won three games in a row.

Garrett Pieri was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Levi Cook was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Lakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Lakeland's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Churubusco, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Coming up, Lakeland will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Heritage at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lakers 3.4, the Patriots 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Churubusco, they are taking a road trip to challenge West Noble at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
