The GRACE Christian Eagles will face off against the Cary Academy Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in GRACE Christian's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last 11 matchups.
On Tuesday, GRACE Christian got the win against North Raleigh Christian Academy by a conclusive 15-4. Considering the Eagles have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addison Vercellino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, GRACE Christian got a massive performance out of Madison Barry, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Barry has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Barry, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
GRACE Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in 11 consecutive contests.
Durham Academy hit Cary Academy with a 11-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Chargers came up short against the Cavaliers, falling 16-3.
GRACE Christian's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cary Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-9.
Everything went GRACE Christian's way against Cary Academy in their previous meeting back in March, as GRACE Christian made off with a 19-2 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
