Meanwhile, Plant faced Carrollwood Day in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Patriots.

While Plant won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-15.

Plant's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.
