Basketball Recap: Southern Alamance Comes Up Short

Southern Alamance was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against the Western Alamance Warriors, falling 62-37. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while the Warriors are ranked 240th).

When it comes to explaining why Southern Alamance lost, don't look at Riley Warren. Despite the final result, he posted eight points and eight boards. Warren has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Drayden Brewer also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Southern Alamance smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Western Alamance was led to victory by James Newton and Matthew Huffman. Newton to rack up 15 points in addition to six assists and five boards, while Huffman on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaden Danieley, who scored eight points and seven boards.

Southern Alamance's loss dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Western Alamance, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season.

Southern Alamance didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-45 defeat against Orange on the 17th. As for Western Alamance, they have also already played their next match, a 51-49 loss against Williams on the 17th.
