Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. Pearl Pirates
Germantown is 2-7 against Pearl since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Germantown Mavericks' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Pearl Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on December 27th. Hopefully Germantown is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pearl in Mississippi (Germantown is ranked 38th, while Pearl is ranked 200th).
Germantown scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They breezed by Olive Branch on the road to the tune of 77-43. Germantown might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six contests by 25 points or more this season.
Germantown found their leader in underclassman Ayla Benson, who went 8 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 2 assists. That's the first time this season that Benson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Charlie Gamberine, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Pearl's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on December 7th after their sixth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 38-16 walloping at the hands of Florence. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pearl has scored all season.
Germantown's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Pearl, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-7.
Germantown came up short against Pearl in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, falling 45-41. Can Germantown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
