Baseball Recap: Newton Gets the Win

Newton owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over the Casey-Westfield Warriors. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Carson Barthelme's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gavin Meinhart was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Newton's win bumped their record up to 21-4. As for Casey-Westfield, they moved to 16-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton will take on Edwards County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Casey-Westfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Danville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
