Baseball Recap: Evansville Comes Up Short

Evansville had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-18 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Big Foot Chiefs by a score of 2-1. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chiefs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Big Foot, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Evansville since April 7, 2022.

For Big Foot's part, Connor Weeks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on nine hits and racked up six Ks. Weeks also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Chiefs are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Big Foot secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Evan Henningfeld, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

While Evansville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
