Baseball Game Preview: Plant Panthers vs. Wharton Wildcats

The Plant Panthers will square off against the Wharton Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Plant sitting on eight straight victories and Wharton on four.

Plant is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Steinbrenner 5-3. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly two runs.

Meanwhile, Wharton made easy work of Parrish Community on Thursday and carried off an 11-3 win. Considering the Wildcats have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Evans looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Cobb was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Antonio Fawcett, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Wharton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parrish Community only posted a batting average of .280.

Wharton pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Plant, their win bumped their record up to 22-6.

Everything went Plant's way against Wharton when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Plant made off with a 14-4 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
