Basketball Recap: Deerfield Comes Up Short

Deerfield played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Maine South Hawks 72-45. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Deerfield saw an underclassman step up: freshman Eve Engler went 7-for-17 en route to 26 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Engler has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Shir Paz, who posted five points.

Deerfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-22. As for Maine South, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season.

Deerfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-35 victory against Niles North on the 11th. As for Maine South, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-56 loss against Libertyville on the 8th.
