Recap: Challenger Firebirds vs. Pinnacle Classical Academy Eagles
The Challenger Firebirds lost against the Pinnacle Classical Academy Eagles back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Challenger fell 52-43 to Pinnacle Classical Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Challenger in their matchups with Pinnacle Classical Academy: they've now lost four in a row.
Riley Annis and Braelon Roe certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Annis scored 21 points, while Roe scored 13 points. The contest was Roe's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Pinnacle Classical Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cody Humphries, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Humphries has scored at least 25% of Pinnacle Classical Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Braylon Gentry, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Challenger's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-8. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Pinnacle Classical Academy, they, and Christian Family Academy. As for Pinnacle Classical Academy, the win was the fifth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Challenger will face off against Christian Family Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinnacle Classical Academy will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Lake Lure Classical Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Lake Lure Classical Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Friday.
