Football Recap: Lakeside Lancers vs. Moreno Valley Vikings
Lakeside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 49-28 to the Moreno Valley Vikings. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2021.
Lakeside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joaquin Guerrero Iii, who threw for 370 yards and four touchdowns. Edgar Barba was in the mix too, providing Lakeside with two touchdowns.
Trevon Williams was his usual excellent self, rushing for 209 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry for Moreno Valley. That's the most rushing yards Williams has posted since back in September. Syree Matthews was another key player, rushing for 62 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Moreno Valley, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Lakeside will take on Citrus Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeside is facing Citrus Hill at the right time seeing as Citrus Hill is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Moreno Valley, they will challenge Canyon Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Moreno Valley likes a good challenge.
