Baseball Game Preview: Northern Guilford Nighthawks vs. Western Alamance Warriors

The Northern Guilford Nighthawks will take on the Western Alamance Warriors in a tournament on Wednesday. Northern Guilford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Northern Guilford is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since March 7th on Tuesday. They came out on top against Dudley by a score of 5-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Yancey Burleson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Northern Guilford's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Hinnant, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Nathanael Lorczak also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Western Alamance lost 13-3 to Southeast Guilford on Tuesday. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Northern Guilford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Western Alamance, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

Northern Guilford was able to grind out a solid win over Western Alamance in their previous meeting back in June of 2021, winning 5-0. Will the Nighthawks repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
