Basketball Recap: Eddie Whiteside's Big Game Can't Quite Lead KIPP Esperanza over Mountain View Academy

KIPP Esperanza was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 49-35 bruising from the Mountain View Academy Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 62-37 back in December of 2024.

KIPP Esperanza's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eddie Whiteside, who posted five points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. Gabriel Cambron was another key player, putting up nine points.

Daniel Malo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain View Academy, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten steals. Those ten steals gave Malo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Penaflorida, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 15 points and five boards.

KIPP Esperanza's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Mountain View Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

As of now, neither KIPP Esperanza nor Mountain View Academy have any future games scheduled.
