Softball Recap: Wellington Dukes vs. Columbia Raiders
Wellington's last matchup with Columbia could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Monday. The Dukes came up short against the Raiders, falling 17-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dukes of the 4-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Mallory Pickering was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Pickering wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Danica Borzy, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Wellington now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Columbia, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Looking ahead, Wellington will head out to take on Firelands at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dukes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Columbia, they will welcome Brookside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
