Softball Game Preview: Vina Red Devils vs. Cherokee Indians

Vina is 1-9 against Cherokee since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Red Devils will challenge the Indians at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Vina was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Covenant Christian on Monday. The Red Devils never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

The result came thanks to MiKayla Shotts's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Elrod, who earned two runs and three stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxtyn Quinn, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cherokee). They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over Decatur Heritage Christian Academy on Friday. Considering the Indians have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Emily Crocker was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tatum Lockett, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Vina's record now sits at 14-20. As for Cherokee, their record is now 12-15.

Vina might still be hurting after the 14-5 loss they got from Cherokee in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
