Basketball Recap: James Island Takes a Loss

James Island was the 51-42 winner over West Ashley when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The James Island Trojans took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Ashley Wildcats. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, James Island still got an impressive performance from Madisyn Smith, who posted 12 points and six steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alexa Lehr, who had five points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, James Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

West Ashley's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Elliott, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Destiny Ladson was another key player, putting up 16 points.

James Island's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for West Ashley, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

James Island will challenge Summerville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summerville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for West Ashley, they will take on Fort Dorchester at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
