Softball Recap: Wayne's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

Wayne dropped their record down to 4-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 10-7 to the Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Zoe Eaton led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jessy Newmyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

As for Palmyra-Macedon, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

On Palmyra-Macedon's side, Briana VanHaneghan was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. VanHaneghan was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Addi Gendron was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shelby Geer, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Wayne is taking a road trip to take on Greece Odyssey at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Leopards at the right time seeing as the Leopards are stuck on a four-game losing streak. Palmyra-Macedon will be paying especially close attention to Wayne's match: after Wayne faces off against Greece Odyssey, they'll take on Palmyra-Macedon again at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
