Baseball Recap: University Takes a Loss

If University was feeling good fresh off their 17-3 takedown of Hollywood last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The University Wildcats fell just short of the Fremont Pathfinders by a score of 7-6 on Monday. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Jacob Santos was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Evan Han made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

University's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Fremont, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Looking ahead, University is taking a road trip to challenge Vaughn at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Vaughn's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so University's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fremont, they will be playing at home against Jefferson at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
