Football Recap: Wayne Christian Comes Up Short

Wayne Christian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-6. The contest between the Eagles and the Ravenscroft Ravens didn't end well, with the Eagles falling 35-20. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Ravens 6-0 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Wayne Christian still got an impressive performance from Jamari Hill, who rushed for 172 yards and one TD while picking up 8.6 yards per carry.

As for Ravenscroft, they pushed their record up to 3-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.6 yards per carry in those games compared to only 1.74 in the others.

Ravenscroft had a senior duo take command as Elijah Deifer threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns and Miles Hughey gained 48 total yards and three touchdowns. Deifer's passing game has become a key predictor of the Ravens' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-5 otherwise.

Coming up, Wayne Christian will challenge North Wake S at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will be up against the Saints' rather soft defense (which has allowed 47 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Ravenscroft, they will take on Harrells Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Ravens will need to watch out since the Crusaders have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
