Volleyball Recap: Reed-Custer Comes Up Short

Reed-Custer lost against Herscher back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Comets fell 2-0 to the Tigers.

Reed-Custer might've come up short, but they didn't make it easy on Herscher: every set was decided by exactly three points. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-22.

Mackenzie Foote paced Reed-Custer's offense, picking up five kills. Foote got some help from Madelynn Marschner and her eight assists. Foote was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Reed-Custer's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Herscher, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10.

Reed-Custer and Herscher could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Comets (ranked 567th) will meet Seneca (ranked 225th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Herscher will challenge Bradley-Bourbonnais at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (452 vs. 88).
