Basketball Recap: Avon Lake's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Avon Lake came into Tuesday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Midview Middies by a score of 61-53 on Tuesday. For the Shoremen, this counts as revenge for the 52-47 victory the Middies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Midview's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Jockel, who posted 14 points and three steals. Jockel is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brennen Newton, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Avon Lake's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Midview, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Avon Lake will venture away from home to challenge Steele at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Steele knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Avon Lake likes a good challenge. As for Midview, they will welcome Berea-Midpark at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Midview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.
