Baseball Recap: Cortland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mexico

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cortland). They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Mexico Tigers on Monday. With that win, the Purple Tigers brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.

Cal Albright was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Cortland got a massive performance out of Caden Albright, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Albright has posted since back in April of 2024. Zach Muir was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Cortland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

Cortland's record now sits at 5-1. As for Mexico, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Cortland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-4 victory against Westhill on the 23rd. Mexico has also already played their next contest (against Skaneateles), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
