Basketball Recap: Seguin Comes Up Short

Seguin's tournament run continued when they took on Brenham on Saturday. The Seguin Matadors received a blow as they fell 57-38 to the Brenham Cubs. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 888th, while the Cubs are ranked 303rd).

Despite the loss, Seguin still got an impressive performance from Corey Dailey, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. What's more, Dailey also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2023.

Seguin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Brenham, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-6.

Seguin will head out to face off against Edison at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Seguin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for Brenham, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-35 defeat against Pflugerville Connally on the 28th.
