Baseball Game Preview: St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans vs. Milford Bearcats

The St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Milford Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Joseph-Ogden will be looking to extend their current 19-game winning streak.

St. Joseph-Ogden can't be too worried about heading out to take on Milford: they just beat Monticello at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Sages 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted against the Sages since April 4, 2017.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Milford's offense. They came up short against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Tuesday, falling 6-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Bearcats in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

St. Joseph-Ogden pushed their record up to 25-2 with the win, which was their 13th straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.

St. Joseph-Ogden was able to grind out a solid win over Milford in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
