The Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks will be taking part in a tournament against the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Oceanside Collegiate Academy's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Battery Creek as they made off with a 14-0 victory. With that win, the Landsharks brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Cade Griffith looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tanner Fleming, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Conrad Stabene was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy came tearing into Wednesday's contest with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 10-3 victory.
Jackson Okonkwo was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Okonkwo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Josh Henkel was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Thomas Conrad, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Greenbrier Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Oceanside Collegiate Academy's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their record is now 16-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Oceanside Collegiate Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greenbrier Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
