Basketball Recap: Flagler Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Flagler Panthers lost to the Springfield Longhorns on the road by a 67-50 margin.

Despite the loss, Flagler still got an impressive performance from Braden Hill, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaniel Salee, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Colby Batterton was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 20 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals for Springfield. Those eight steals gave Batterton a new career-high. Rhett Bray was another key player, putting up seven points along with 11 boards and three blocks.

Flagler has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Springfield, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-9.

Flagler and Springfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Flagler (ranked 310th) will meet Stratton (ranked 139th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Springfield will challenge Stanton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 180 places (271 vs. 91).
