Softball Game Preview: Kingsburg Vikings vs. Reedley Pirates

Kingsburg has gone a perfect 6-0 against Reedley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. Kingsburg will be strutting in after a win while Reedley will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Kingsburg turned things around against Kerman on Tuesday. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.

The result came thanks to Alyanna 'Yaya' Gonzales's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kingsburg saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Woods, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Woods has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Reygan Jones was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Reedley lost 9-3 to Hanford West on Tuesday. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Saige Hallum made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamilah Taylor, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Kingsburg's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Reedley, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Everything went Kingsburg's way against Reedley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Kingsburg made off with a 10-1 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
