Baseball Recap: Pensacola Catholic Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Walton, Pensacola Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Jay Royals with a sharp 12-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Crusaders considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Parker Granse spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Pensacola Catholic got a massive performance out of Colton Guillot, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Guillot a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Gavin Howard, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.

Pensacola Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jay only posted an OBP of .136.

Pensacola Catholic's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Jay, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pensacola Catholic will take on Gulf Breeze at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jay, they will challenge Cottondale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
