Basketball Game Preview: Male Bulldogs vs. Assumption Rockets

Male is 2-8 against Assumption since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The two teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. without much rest, having both just played. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Male is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since January 22nd on Wednesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 57-17 victory over Louisville Collegiate. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th in Kentucky, while the Amazons & Titans are ranked 244th in Kentucky), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Assumption). They claimed a resounding 87-14 win over Brown. The Rockets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Assumption's win came from a few key players Male will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ashlinn James, who posted ten points and four steals. James is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Moore, who scored nine points.

Assumption smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Assumption, bringing their record for this year to 21-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points over those games. As for Male, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
