League recap: Pierce County tops Savannah to extend winning streak

Pierce County extended the longest winning streak in AAA Region 1 this week by beating Savannah, 35-14. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Johnson took down Brantley County 40-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Corbin Mitchell ran for 123 yards and caught two passes for 60 yards in the win.

Shyheim Roberts put up the best numbers through the air as the Atomsmashers beat the Herons. He finished with eight completions for 125 yards and one touchdown.

Jovante Spivey provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bluejackets lost to Pierce County. He completed three passes for 48 yards and also ran for 124 yards. Spivey's favorite target this week was Jermaine Williams, who caught two passes for 40 yards.

Savannah's Spivey and Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Spivey has thrown for 851 yards this season, while Williams, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 11 catches for 322 yards. Mitchell from Johnson leads the league in rushing with 677 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Tattnall County takes on Southeast Bulloch. The Warriors are currently in third, while the Yellowjackets are in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when the Atomsmashers and Beach face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Johnson comes in having scored 116 this season, while the Bulldogs have scored 108. The Atomsmashers scored 40 points last week as they topped Brantley County.

Johnson led AAA Region 1 in scoring this week after putting up 40 points on the Herons. Mitchell in the win.
