Recap: Lovington Wildcats vs. Portales Rams
On Friday, The Lovington Wildcats faced the Portales Rams in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lovington walked away with a 29-21 win over Portales. The win was familiar territory for Lovington who now have four in a row.
Camon Ochoa was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Ochoa was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Demarcus Thompson, who threw for 21 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Lovington's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 7.5 sacks. Portales' QB won't forget Thompson anytime soon given Thompson sacked him eight times.
Lovington's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points per game. As for Portales, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Lovington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Portales also has no future games currently scheduled.
