Softball Recap: Homewood-Flossmoor Gets the Win

Homewood-Flossmoor hadn't done well against Andrew recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Thunderbolts. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 13-9 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Kaylee Vitolka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Demi Chaney was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Elodie Sullivan was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Homewood-Flossmoor and bumps their season record up to 5-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Andrew, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.

Coming up, Homewood-Flossmoor will take on Lincoln-Way Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Andrew, they will head out on the road to face off against Lyons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
